Windward Alum Protects Bay Through Summer Internship

Did you know that out of the 45 Windward Network interns from this past summer, 13 were college-age alumni?

Matthew Chill ’17, currently studying at UC Berkeley, had the opportunity to intern with Heal the Bay studying and protecting Marine Protected Areas (MPA’s) in Malibu and Palos Verdes. He also helped train other volunteers.

“The Windward Network was very helpful for me in getting my internship over the summer,” Matthew said. “Securing work over the summer just after your first year in college can be very difficult, and utilizing the Windward Network made this process easier for me. Even better, I wound up doing work in a field in which I’m very interested. To me this work has been very fulfilling because I firmly believe that I’m actuating positive change on the world.”
