The Studio for Writing and Rhetoric at Windward helps students in their efforts to become expert writers and communicators. Windward peer tutors guide and support students through the writing process and help students build confidence and feel inspired by their work.
The Studio for Writing and Rhetoric is a peer-to-peer learning environment where students can consult with each other to improve as writers and work on digital media projects and oral presentations. Students are encouraged to come in for help to overcome writer's block, think about how to revise and improve a piece of written work, or get help with rethinking how they approach the writing process.
The Studio was the outgrowth of the efforts of the Writing and Rhetoric Across the Curriculum initiative (WRAC). Since 2010, Windward has explored best practices in the teaching of writing and oral rhetoric. The work of the WRAC initiative has benefitted from the formation of university collaborations to learn innovative research on communication, including visits and discussions with Stanford University’s Hume Writing Center.
