The purpose of the autobiography is to acquaint the admissions committee with the applicant and might be based on a student’s favorite subjects, extracurricular activities, hobbies, special talents, and/or unique experiences (e.g. trips, summer camps, etc.). An application is considered active once the application, student autobiography, and fee are submitted to the Admissions Office.
  • 4. Complete the additional application forms

The following forms should be downloaded, printed, and given to the applicant's school and teachers. These forms are due after December 1, 2017 but no later than January 20, 2018:

    Transcript Request Form
    Math Teacher Recommendation Form
    English Teacher Recommendation Form
    Administrative Recommendation Form
    Athletics Recommendation Form (Optional)
    Arts Recommendation Form (Optional)
  • 5. Register for the ISEE exam

Register for the ISEE exam. This test is administered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB), which sets and collects the fee. All registration materials should be mailed directly to ERB; you may also contact them through the ERB website. We recommend that students take the ISEE as early as possible. Applicants for Seventh Grade should take the exam no later than Jan. 14, 2018 and request scores be sent to Windward School as soon as possible. Candidates for Eighth through 11th Grade must take the ISEE by Dec. 10, 2017 and request scores be sent to Windward no later than Dec. 15, 2017. The test may be taken up to two times per academic year at any test site. If a student takes the test more than one time, the admission's office would like to receive both of the applicant results. To ensure Windward receives the applicant’s results, parents must request that ISEE send Windward School copies. Our school code, 053323, must be included on the ISEE registration form.
  • 6. Schedule an Interview

To guarantee an interview, applicants for Seventh Grade must complete the application for admission and submit it with the autobiography by Nov. 9, 2017. Once we have received your application and student autobiography, the Admissions Office will contact you to arrange an individual interview. Students who submit applications between November 10 and December 7, 2017 will not automatically be granted an interview. Instead, the admissions committee will screen applicants and determine if an interview will be granted. The final application deadline is Dec. 7, 2017 at midnight.

For Eighth through 11th Grade applicants: Because space is limited in upper grades, the admissions committee will conduct an initial screening of all applicants for each grade and then select candidates for a personal interview. Selected candidates will be notified by phone with an interview date. If an interview is not granted, you will be notified by mail in December or January. Upper School applicants must take the ISEE by Dec. 10, 2017 to be included in this evaluation.

Open Houses

Both the Student and Parent Open Houses are for applicant families who are applying for the 2018-19 school year. Because space is limited, if your family is not applying for the 2018-19 school year, please continue to view our website for more information and then register for an Open House in the appropriate year.

Parent Open House
Two Parent Open Houses are held in the evening for prospective parents. Parents are given an opportunity to meet Windward department chairs, administrators, parents, and students.  The program gives prospective parents an overview of the curriculum and allows them to visit with students and parents currently involved with the School.  This evening is only for parents as we have several special student Open Houses held in the afternoon.

Student Shadow Afternoon Open House
Two Student Shadow Afternoon Open Houses are held after school to allow prospective students the opportunity to visit classrooms and meet current Windward students and faculty. Hands-on classroom experiences, athletics, and arts are part of this fun afternoon. Snacks are provided.
