Windward Senior, Coach Take Gold

Last March, Charisma Osborne ’19 and Girls Basketball Program Lead Vanessa Nygaard ended their season with a championship victory. On July 29, they did it again, this time representing the United States in the FIBA Women’s U17 Basketball World Cup.

Defeating France 92-40 to earn Gold, the win capped a stellar summer that saw Charisma and Vanessa face off against a number of top teams, such as France and Australia, in Minsk, Belarus.

Said Charisma on her Gold medal winning experience:  “It was extremely fun to hang out with my teammates and get to know them. We had so much fun together, and we definitely made the best out of the time we had. It may have been serious on the court, but as soon as we got off, it was always fun and jokes around them. We made so many memories that I know will last forever!”

Charisma also came away with motivation for the 2018-19 season. “I learned to have fun and enjoy everything. Just to make the most out of it because it definitely doesn’t last forever. I think if everyone is competing and doing the best they can, we will have a really great chance for a three-peat!”

Congratulations to Charisma and Vanessa! And best of luck to Charisma as she takes her talents to UCLA next Fall.
