Service Learning

Allies for Every Child: Each year, Windward families host a Thanksgiving dinner at Allies for Every Child. Windward community members donate food and volunteer by cooking and serving the holiday meal to clients of the Center. Windward also partners with the organization for Giving Tuesday, collecting donations of toys and gift cards to be gifted to AFEC residents. Finally, Windward students assist families by hosting holiday photoshoots and providing printed family portraits. 

 

Middle School Service Learning: Middle School Service learning program partners with PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) each year, hosting multiple events, including projects like making hygiene kits for homeless individuals, wrapping holiday presents that were donated for Giving Tuesday, and making gift baskets for individuals who are moving into PATH housing. 

 

Richland Avenue Elementary School: Windward teaches Richland Avenue Elementary School students in Grades 3-6 various forms of Latin dance. The class is led by Windward Dance guest artists and student volunteers. Windward Juniors also host a Girls in STEM program open to elementary students.

Mar Vista Elementary School: Windward partners with Mar Vista Elementary as part of Big Sunday, helping the school with beautification efforts such as gardening, painting, and playground upkeep. Windward also holds an improv class led by the School's W!T team, sessions for girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) hosted by Windward Juniors, and Kid CREATE, an arts and sciences program.

Grandview Elementary School: Working with Grandview Elementary, Windward leads numerous workshops including W!T improv classes, Art Explorers, and a Media Bytes technology class. 

Elementary Outreach: Windward works with neighboring elementary schools with events such as Big Sunday, a landscaping and restoration event with Walgrove School, to hosting arts and tech programs for the students of Grandview Elementary. Windward Juniors also created a Girls in STEM program open to elementary students from Richland Avenue, Beethoven Elementary, and Walgrove School. This year Windward also added a five-week math program with Overland Elementary.
