Community Commitments

Like many other schools, Windward School operates in a residential neighborhood, and as such, we are required by the City of LA to follow the guidelines set out by our Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) annually verifies our compliance through a traffic study. Failure to comply can result in financial penalties, increased enforcement of busing mandates, and reduced enrollment numbers.

With this in mind, in the 2026-27 school year, all 7th, 8th, and 9th Graders are required to ride the bus to school unless an exception has been approved by the School.

Since its founding more than five decades ago, Windward has grown and flourished thanks to the generosity of families, volunteers, foundations, and friends of all giving levels, committed to shaping the School’s future. The programs and spaces our students benefit from today exist because of those who gave before—and the ongoing strength of Windward relies on the participation of every generation moving forward.

Each year, the Windward Fund’s 100 Days of Giving campaign serves as the School’s primary philanthropic initiative, supporting the three foundational pillars of a Windward education: Program Enhancements, Financial Aid, and Research & Development. Contributions to the Windward Fund directly impact the student experience—from innovative classroom opportunities to greater access and equity.

In addition to the Windward Fund, the School continues to pursue strategic development opportunities that enhance the student experience and support long-term growth. From expanding campus spaces to launching future-focused capital campaigns, philanthropy ensures that Windward remains a place where innovation, opportunity, and community thrive.
