Windward Places Five Finalists, Two Qualifiers at Speech National Qualifying Tournament

Competing at the West LA National Qualifying Tournament for Speech & Debate on April 26, Windward placed five finalists, with two Wildcats earning bids to the National Speech and Debate Association tournament in June.

National Qualifier Finalists

Meiyi Wang - 7th Dramatic Interpretation

Cam Scotch - 6th Extemporaneous Speaking (National)

Luke Gialanella - 5th Extemporaneous Speaking (National)

National Qualifiers

Sam Siminou - 3rd Extemporaneous Speaking (National)

Emma Green - 2nd Extemporaneous Speaking (International)

The success continues an impressive season for Windward Speech & Debate. In March, Meiyi, Luke, Sam, and Emma qualified for the State Qualifying Tournament hosted by Culver City High School, which makes Sam and Emma dually qualified State and National extemporaneous speakers.

During the pre-tournament extemp prep session, Speech & Debate super-fans Jane Swindell and Nataša Jovanovic provided an audience along with words of encouragement. Julia Coley, Erika Hoffman, and Luke's parents cheered on our Wildcat orators in surprise video shoutouts.
