Windward Junior Earns First Place in Association for Women in Mathematics/Math for America Essay Contest

Windward Communications

Congratulations are in order for Windward Junior Alexa "Lexi" Eskovitz, who recently took first place in the Association for Women in Mathematics/Math for America Essay Contest! Her essay—“From the World Cup to a Sustainable World: Mandiola’s Math Mindset”—was chosen for the top prize out of all entrants in the grades 9th-12th category. Charged to write an essay based primarily on an interview with a woman currently working in or retired from a mathematical sciences career, Lexi's essay featured an interview with Leticia Torres Mandiola of Ørsted, a multinational company focused on alternative energy.

The purpose of the AWM is to "create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavors, and to promote equitable opportunity and treatment of women and others of marginalized genders and gender identities across the mathematical sciences." We're so incredibly proud of Lexi for her amazing accomplishment!
