Windward Debate Nationally Ranked Following Claremont Invitational

Windward Communications
On October 12, the Windward Speech and Debate team competed at the Claremont invitational along with 45 other schools. A fierce Wildcat contingent of 10 students represented Windward with four teams in Parliamentary debate, two entries in Lincoln Douglas, and double entries in the Speech events of Impromptu and Extemporaneous Speaking. First year Upper School debaters Ben Weitz, Cam Scotch, Riley Madden, and Luke Gialanella jumped into Varsity Parliamentary debate undaunted. Our debaters were on fire, scorching their way through topics ranging from the national effects of economic tariffs, prospects for colonizing mars, and how NATO should sanction Turkey for its recent offensive in Syria.

The performance of the Wildcat team yielded remarkable accomplishments. Meiyi Wang broke to Quarterfinals in Novice LD. Jack Samet broke to Finals in Extemporaneous Speaking, earning 5th overall. Debating with Jaden Rosenbaum in Parliamentary debate, Jessica Lewin finished ranked 17th speaker in a field of 116 individual speakers. Sam Siminou and Ian Farish broke to Parli Quarterfinals, placing in the top 8 of 58 teams.  Siminou and Farish are now nationally ranked debaters in the National Parliamentary Debate League.

Great work, Wildcats!
