The Windward Vocal Music Department is honored to present their next virtual choir video in conjunction with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 18. The video features the Windward Chromatics performing "Wade in the Water," a well-known, traditional African-American spiritual, in an arrangement by Moses Hogan, one of the greatest African-American choral composers and arrangers of the 20th century.
This song evokes images of the healing properties of water, and of the necessity of passing through momentous thresholds to reach the promised land; however, in a very real and literal way, this song is also about African-American slaves as they sought to escape slavery and find pathways to freedom.
Said Daniel Koh, Director of Choral Activities, "We hope this song will inspire you as it has inspired us, especially as we continue to fight systemic racism in our country and in the world."
