This weekend, the Windward Speech & Debate Team braced the cold down in Carlsbad for the La Costa Canyon Winter Classic. With three states, 55 schools, and 788 entries in attendance, the tournament regularly serves as the first opportunity for our speakers to test their skills. And not only did they test those skills, but they truly used them to rocket to the top. Of the 16 Windward students who attended the competition, thirteen advanced to elimination rounds and received at least one award. In the end, whether it be top 32 or champion of their respective event, each and every one of these competitors bested dozens upon dozens of other competitors to make it to the top, securing several bids to the Tournament of Champions in the process. Next, the wildcats set their eyes on the Peninsula and Stanford Invitationals and, with them, the road to Harvard later this year. Good luck out there cats!
