On Saturday, Feb 15, the Windward Middle School Robotics teams competed in their last tournament of the season. The VEX Battle 3.0 mixed Middle and High School tournament was held at Irving STEAM Magnet just south of Glendale.
All three middle school teams did very well considering a majority of the competition were high school teams. However, team 5871A, our very own CATafornia Girls, led by Laila C. ‘29, Vivian S. ‘29, Aria S.‘29, and Sofia S. ‘29 performed exceptionally well. The team finished six qualifying rounds in 8th place (out of 26 teams) with a 4-2 record. Picking an alliance partner who was in 11th place at the end of qualifiers, the alliance won in the round of 16 and again in the quarter finals, putting them in a pitched semifinals battle with an all high school alliance.
A semi finals finish is the best finish our Middle School team has had to date.
Team 5871B, driven by Danielle I. ‘29 and assisted by Leo B. ‘29, delivered an outstanding performance, with her single-handedly managing both mechanics and programming. Her hard work paid off, securing a strong alliance in round 16 and achieving an impressive individual rank of 20.
Meanwhile, Ren S. ‘29, and Adam S. ‘30 collaborated effectively with their 5871C robot, making last-minute adjustments to mechanics and programming that significantly improved their robot’s performance and overall ranking.
Throughout the season, our teams demonstrated exceptional teamwork and support for one another, pushing each other to new heights. Despite the many twists and turns, the students met every challenge head-on, emerging stronger and more skilled than before.
