This school year, the EdTech Team of Jenn Zanoria and Norma Gamez, working in partnership with the Responsive Teaching Team and Head of School Sarah Beck, has been building momentum around generative AI. Through a series of optional professional development sessions and the release of new Guidelines for Acceptable Use, the team has supported faculty in deepening their understanding of tools like Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Magic School AI. Leading up to Windward’s gen-AI–focused January in-service with guest speaker Eric Hudson, the EdTech Team hosted the following opportunities:
- Appy Hour sessions exploring Gemini Gems (custom chatbots) and NotebookLM
- Magic School AI Lunch & Learns highlighting both teacher- and student-facing tools
- Collaboration with Capstone teachers to discuss the impact of introducing generative AI too early in the learning process
November will also introduce a new opt-in learning experience for teachers called Co-Lab Gen AI Explorations, modeled after an educator collaborative designed to provide meaningful professional development beyond the school day.
