Faculty Explore AI in Education During In-Service Day

Windward Communications

While students enjoyed Friday, Jan. 16 off, Windward faculty and staff spent the day diving into Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, exploring how emerging technologies can enhance teaching and learning. The in-service is part of Windward’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that classroom practices evolve alongside innovation in education.

The day featured a series of engaging sessions led by Eric Hudson, a nationally recognized educator and consultant who helps schools around the world navigate teaching and learning in the age of AI. Known for his human-centered, research-informed approach, Eric makes complex shifts in technology accessible, thoughtful, and actionable for educators.

The professional development programming included:

  • Keynote: AI Skills That Matter — Eric introduced essential AI competencies for both students and teachers and shared clear frameworks for integrating AI in developmentally appropriate and meaningful ways.

  • Hands-On Workshop: Gemini & NotebookLM — Faculty explored these AI tools in a guided, practical session, learning core prompting strategies, experimenting with each platform, and reflecting on how AI might enhance teaching and learning in their own classrooms.

By participating in these sessions, faculty and staff deepened their understanding of AI tools and developed strategies to bring this knowledge directly into the classroom, ensuring students are prepared to engage thoughtfully with emerging technologies.
