Biology Students Explore DNA Analysis in “Oodles of Labradoodles” Lab

On November 13, students in Erin Borgstrom's Biology classes put their scientific skills to the test during an engaging hands-on lab titled ""Oodles of Labradoodles." Using new lab technology, students worked with micropipettes and gel electrophoresis equipment to analyze DNA samples from a fictional litter of puppies.

After carefully transferring DNA and separating segments by size, students examined the resulting electrophoresis patterns to determine the genetic relationships within the litter—ultimately identifying the puppies’ father. The activity challenged students to apply their understanding of DNA structure and inheritance while practicing precision, problem-solving, and real-world laboratory techniques.
