Philosophy of the Middle School

Windward’s Middle School administration and faculty create a dynamic academic environment that fosters student success in all areas of school life. We encourage students to work diligently, to do their best, and to respect all work done in this spirit. Our programs enhance our students’ confidence, curiosity, and integrity.

Our Middle School program provides a challenging, stimulating learning environment. We know that young adolescents learn best when they engage actively with material. Our innovative classrooms inspire students to develop the academic and critical thinking skills needed for success in Upper School and in life. We are further committed to providing excellence in the fine and performing arts, physical education, athletics, and community service, where students develop their talents, character, and leadership skills.

Windward’s nurturing, inclusive community is an ideal learning environment. We recognize that young adolescents thrive when they have strong bonds with the adults in their lives. Our Middle School faculty members are talented, caring, and accessible professionals devoted to developing meaningful relationships with students. Windward emphasizes positive group interaction based on respect for the individuality of all students. Students learn strong work habits, learn to ask questions and take risks, and learn to become their own advocates.

Our Middle School students move into the Upper School as self-assured, well balanced, confident young adults with a genuine love of learning.
