The hardest thing in soccer is to come back from a goal down on a team. This happens all the time, but when a ref becomes part of the game there is nothing more frustrating than that. From AYSO to the collegiate level never should a ref determine the outcome of a game. Unfortunately we had this happen to us in our game against Brentwood. The boys came out flying with a few chances on goal. The game was back and forth with no time to rest and regroup. I must give credit were credit is due, because the Brentwood lads kept us working the entire time. With a few subs moved around we got our rhythm back and were deadly with some our play. I feel if we had scored early the outcome would have been in our favor.
Late in the first half a guy broke through our steady defense and slotted a great goal on Jesse. I feel honestly we should have done better defensively but that's why were are here to learn and improve from our mistakes. After the boys heads dropped and it took a half time talk to get them back into form. Its great to know the boys are learning and half great questions and suggestions. Coming into the half time talk Alex R, made a great suggestion and that proves to me we are learning and improving every day.
The second half was the same old story. The ref not wanting to let the kids play and not giving us our calls. At one point we were taken down in the box with no call except to shut me up. If you were at the game you saw how ridiculous this was. The boys kept fighting and attacking. Making great plays in defense to put our boys through on goal. At one point we had a breakaway with 8 minutes left and this could have been our chance to crawl back. In return they came straight down the field and finished another goal. This would be the final score and a disappointing score because of how well we played.
I feel not only did the boys keep fighting they kept their heads up high because i think they knew inside they knew Brentwood was not the better team. I feel my defensive player of the game was ALEX H, and the offensive player of the game was K. Patel. The two boys were great and stepped up when i needed them to. The hard tackles and great balls were what i was asking for and I hope next time we will get the result to show our hard work and progress.
I asked some of the boys to comment on the game and here are some responses.
Alex R: After two weeks of no practice or playing soccer we were not exactly at the top of our game. I feel ALex H. Played well but we did not put enough effort into the game including myself.
Shea Clark: Ryan benson one of our star players was yellow carded for diving. Number 30 should have received a yellow card. Windward played a hard second half keeping the score at 2-0 but were unable to score. Thoughout the game all the players played hard even thought we did not win.
K.Patel: We all played our hardest and it was a very close game. The other team had the ball in the first ten minutes but our team adapted and had some shots on goal. BRENTWOODS TEAM IS BEATABLE, and we will prove that the next time we play them!!!!!!
